Accelerated Reader
Kindergarten
In Kindergarten, we like for you to choose books that are on the first, second, or third grade level. You can visit our school's website,
www.tcalions.com, to find our AR list. There will be a log in your child's folder. You are responsible for listening to your child read or reading to him/her and recording it in this log. We will then give your child the test and record the score. We will give tests on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday each week. Please read with your child at home. It is our desire to motivate students to read and ultimately instill a love of books.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT AR:
1. How many books should we read a week? I would suggest reading no more than 4 books a week.
2. Can they retake a test if they do not do well? NO - This is why it is important that they read and re-read the book before they take the test. Once a test is taken on a book, they can not test on that same book again. This is carried over into subsequent grades as well.
3. How do we get AR books? Our librarian will make sure that your child checks out AR books. Also, you are welcome to come visit our
library and check out books. You can also check out books from the public library, your church library, ect. However, make sure the book is on our AR list. There are several good books that we do not have AR tests for so please check with our list.
